Cell Culture Development Laboratory

The Cell Culture Development Laboratory (CCDL) is the newest addition to the BPDF. The CCDL is composed of two different laboratories. The first lab is for cell culture transformation, T-flask and small spinner flasks. This lab is equipped with three biosafety cabinets, CO2 incubators, inverted microscope and ample bench space. The second laboratory is the cell culture bioreactor room which permits complete scale-up from 0.250 L to 200 L. This lab contains two computer-controlled DasGip System capable of running 8 independent spinner flasks with online-D.O. and pH, 4 by 4 L Bioengineering ALF bioreactors, a computer controlled19 L Bioengineering NLF and a computer controlled 200 L Bioengineering pilot skid. Research in the CCDL has focused on the expression of antibodies in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells and media optimization for the production of antibodies in CHO cells (Mark Mowry publication).
